Exodus to Morocco

A week of Adventure

After my first escorted tour earlier this year, I was excited about my trip to Morocco with Exodus Adventure Tours. Who are Exodus? With 50 years of experience in adventure touring, they started in February 1974 when two men planned and operated an expedition through the rugged hinterland of central Afghanistan, travelling to the remote and fabled Minaret of Jam. From there, Exodus took off with trips to Kathmandu and an incredible 39-week journey from London to Bali! Through the 70s, 80s, and 90s, Exodus expanded, becoming a unique adventure touring company, tackling the Far East, South America, and Africa.

Today, Exodus hosts 30,000 travellers annually, offering 350 small-group trips across nearly 100 countries. From cycling and hiking to wildlife, culture, expeditions, and family adventures, their top destinations include Italy, Costa Rica, Vietnam, and Jordan.

Exodus is strongly committed to sustainability and giving back to communities. In 2019, they established the Exodus Adventure Travels Foundation to fund innovative, sustainable, tourism-related projects. I was lucky enough to visit one of the projects and villages funded by the foundation, which became one of my favourite memories from Morocco!

A Week of Adventure in Morocco

My fun-packed week began with a short direct flight from Manchester to Morocco—just three and a half hours. (Who says you need long-haul flights for winter sun? �55357;�56841;) We arrived in Marrakech late and headed straight to the hotel for an early night, ready to start our journey the next morning.

The Atlas Mountains and Ait Benhaddou

Our first full day took us into the Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass—the highest in Morocco—before arriving at our hotel. From there, our local guide, Mohammed, took us to visit the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many will recognise it as the backdrop for several Hollywood films, including Gladiator (2000). Mohammed, who grew up in the Kasbah, had even worked as an extra in some of these films! Later in the week, we also visited the Atlas Film Studios, home to sets and props from films like Cleopatra, Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and more. We were even told Michael B. Jordan and Samuel L. Jackson might have been there that day!

A Night in the Sahara

This was the day I was most excited about—camping under the stars in the Sahara! We started with a drive to a hotel on the desert’s edge, followed by a two-hour camel ride to a camp surrounded by nothing but sand. We were greeted with mint tea (a staple everywhere in Morocco!) and shown around the camp. I avoided looking too closely at first to keep it a surprise and was delighted by the cosy huts, beautifully arranged firepit, and beanbags nestled among the dunes. Dinner was traditional tagine, and we gathered under the stars as locals played drums and sang.

The next morning, we climbed a sand dune to watch the sunrise. Though slightly cloudy, the view was breathtaking—a true highlight. Sitting atop the dune in peaceful silence, surrounded by an orange and red sky, was unforgettable.

Zagora and the Draa Valley

After a camel ride back and a coach journey to Zagora, we spent a relaxing afternoon by the pool and exploring the local village. Known as the "Gateway to the Sahara," Zagora is in the Draa Valley, home to the world’s largest palm grove with millions of trees. The next morning, we visited Tamegroute, a nearby village famous for its green pottery. I watched the artisans at work and picked up a beautiful souvenir. We also visited the ancient Islamic library housed in a zawiya.

A Village in the Atlas Mountains

We hiked for about an hour into the Atlas Mountains to stay in a village supported by the Exodus Adventure Travels Foundation. Following the devastating 2023 earthquake, which tragically claimed nearly 3,000 lives, the foundation donated £25,000 to help rebuild the community. Established in 2019, the project had already funded a hammam, which we were able to experience—a welcome treat after hours on a camel and hiking.

We stayed in a guesthouse with a terrace offering stunning mountain views. The next morning, we visited the local school, which has five classes. Although I can’t share photos of the children, their smiles left a lasting impression. The school, visibly affected by the earthquake, is undergoing improvements thanks to donations, including plans for new toilets and better water infrastructure. Visiting the school was my favourite part of the trip.

Marrakech

Our final stop was Marrakech, a vibrant and colourful city that felt worlds apart from the peaceful, less populated places we’d visited earlier. Checking into a traditional riad, we had free time to explore the bustling Medina and its market square, alive with fruit stalls, juice vendors, and shops selling everything from clothing to "original fakes." I even discovered a knack for bartering!

Dinner was at a rooftop restaurant, where I indulged in a very Moroccan cheeseburger and chips. �55357;�56837; Afterwards, we relaxed with cocktails at a rooftop bar—a perfect end to a busy week. The next morning, a local guide took us on a tour of Marrakech, including the palace, before we had more time to explore on our own.

The Grand Finale

On our last night, we dressed up for a gala dinner at a 5-star hotel outside the city to celebrate 50 years of Exodus. With 50 travel agents, local guides, and the Exodus team, we reflected on an incredible week in Morocco.

Journey through Jordan

Experience the very best of Jordan on this mesmerising north-to-south tour!

Ever thought about visiting Jordan? Let us take you on an unforgettable journey through this stunning destination. From the ancient wonders of Petra, up biblical mountains to the tranquil waters of the Dead Sea, our expertly curated tours promise a truly memorable experience. This trip was hosted by one of our Key Partners, Wendy Wu Tours, who provide high quality tours, with a high level of inclusions, including excursions, meals and all of your accommodation, flights and transfers, as well as providing a highly knowledgable local guide. Our itinerary was a day shorter than the regular one, so there is more than we describe here.

Jordan is a country everyone knows of, though maybe not quite sure where it is exactly. It has a northern border with Israel to the North-west and Syria to the North-east, to its' East is a very short border with Iraq, to the South is Saudi Arabia and to the East is the Red Sea separating it from Egypt. Probably the most well know is the River Jordan that runs along the border with Israel and the Dead Sea, again providing a water border with Israel.

Day 0: Travelling to Jordan. With Royal Jordanian, with options from Manchester and London Heathrow. After arriving late evening local time, chance to check-in and rest ahead of the first full day.

Day 1: Roman around. Included a visit to the former Roman city of Jerash, known as the 'Pompeii of the East. Here you will find 'Hadrian's Gate', built to commemorate the Roman Emperor's visit in AD129-30, a few years after visiting Britain to see the wall named after him. Continue to Ajloun, where the 12th century castle overlooks the Jordan Valley. Incredible view, including the largest remaining Roman Amphitheatre.

Each day includes a leisurely Breakfast, usually in your hotel, Lunch and Dinner in a local restaurant, providing a taste of the varied flavours that influence Jordanian diet. Lots of fresh salad and deliciously flavoured meats. A tongue tingling extravaganza!

Day 2: The promised land A more spiritual experience, visiting Mount Nebo, the last known stop, and believed resting place of Moses. A chance to pay respects and light a candle for loved ones. Spectacular views of the area believed to be the Promised Land, the Dead Sea, Jerico and Israel. After this, we visited Madaba, for a walk through the main shopping streets and a delicious lunch, before our onward trip to Petra where we enjoyed a culinary class to learn how to create the local cuisine, followed by an optional nightcap at the Cave Bar.

Day 3: All about Petra! The ‘Lost City of the Nabateans’, which featured in Indiana Jones The Last Crusade in 1989, making it feel strangely familiar, yet so incredibly unique. In 2007, Petra was named one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World. They are incredible carvings in the sandstone on a huge scale, up to 45m, dating back to the first century AD. The first carving is known as the Treasury, though little is known about the history and details of the Nabateans’ lives as it really did become a lost city.

We toured the site during the day and took the optional climb up 1,000 steps through the mountains to reach the carving known as the Monastery.

After recovering by the hotel pool and resting, we returned to the Treasury to experience ‘Petra by Night’. A candlelit walk with a light and short performing arts display.

Today was a real privilege to stand in the footsteps of the Mystical Nabateans, wonder about their lives and see such magnificent carvings first hand.

�� 4: A night under the stars!

An hour or so drive to Wadi Rum for our desert experience (that’s the sandy one, not the sweet one with an extra ‘s’!). We checked in to our ‘camp’, nestled beside our very own sandstone mountain. Around a hundred luxury ‘tents’ with a pool, inside and outside restaurants.

The ‘tents’ were a high standard, detached, with full, comfortable beds, a large bathroom and a fridge. Whilst the resort do not serve alcohol, they have no problem with you taking your own - our guide had advised us to pick some up in Amman if we wanted to.

After enjoying some downtime at the pool, we readied ourselves for our desert safari, first by having our keffiyeh (headdress) put on by our guide for sun protection and to look cool (I’ll let you judge the look but they strangely did keep you cool).

We set off in our pickup trucks, riding in the bed, although if prefer, you are welcome to ride in the cab instead. The ride was great fun and the scenery was absolutely stunning, the colours of the sandstone changing with different angles of light and in the shade, pockets of activity and a walk (or run for the fit!) up a sandy hill.

Plenty of photo opportunities and a stop to hear about the old camel station near a water hole that appears during rainy season. An optional camel ride on very healthy looking, friendly and placid ‘ship of the desert’ as the sun started its descent behind the rocks.

This whole area was where Lawrence of Arabia made his story, we had stopped at a visitor centre earlier near the Seven Pillars of Wisdom mountain he named, also the name of his book. After enjoying some freshly brewed, very tasty Bedouin tea, we head back to camp.

We enjoyed a traditional meal, cooked under the ground for many hours to give a mouthwateringly intense flavour to the meat, rice and vegetables. Following this, we enjoyed some traditional music and a chance to shake off any tiredness with a dance, relax with a shisha pipe, or even take an early night to rest.

The night sky was particularly stunning, with there being almost zero light pollution, a chance to stargaze or join the optional guided tour.

I can see how Officer Lawrence found the allure of the desert enough so strong!

After an incredible evening in the desert, for some reason I woke up before the sun rose above our mountain.

As it slowly ascended, the colours of the sky and the glistening sandstone with the peacefulness of our camp felt so calming and relaxing as the Sun’s rays started to warm me. Such a beautiful way to start the day!

After breakfast, we set off on the long journey north to the Dead Sea after first stopping at Aqaba to stand in Jordan looking at the Red Sea in front of us with Saudi Arabia to our left, Egypt in front on the other side of the Red and Israel to our right. We arrived at the creatively named Dead Sea Resort, with luxurious rooms and a great choice of restaurants and bars, a chance to grab a cold beer after a long ride!

First, down to the sea! The walk down highlighted just how low the sea is getting, due to Israel diverting water for irrigation from the main tributary, the River Jordan. It sits over 400m below sea level, making its shores the lowest point in the world and the saltiness comes from rock salt deposits, although at some point the whole area may been covered by the ocean.

The strange sensation of the buoyancy provided by the salt dense water was like having floats strapped to you. A short while getting the salt to your skin before getting back out (a challenge on its own!) and rubbing in the mud. A good rub for exfoliation, allowing it to soak in and start to dry, before back in the water to rinse and soak a little more. You will never feel your skin more silky smooth than at the world’s first health spa!

Back to the hotel pool to soak up some rays before hitting The Bar for happy hour (which happily is 2 hours long) and changed for dinner. The evenings entertainment mixed some modern(ish) pop music with a traditional belly dancer. We capped off the night as a group reminiscing on our experiences and enjoying a few cold ones as the night and the journey drew to a close.

After breakfast the next morning, we headed to the airport where the sight of a female worker in a hijab and another wearing regular attire shared a smoke break and a chat. Jordan has found a way for multiple beliefs to live side by side in harmony.

I was quite sad to be leaving; Jordan had made us so welcome, provided amazing food, gifted us memories that will last our lifetimes and the group had become friends that shared this remarkable experience together. I have no doubt many of us will keep in touch and hopefully our paths will cross again.

A massive thank you to Wendy Wu Tours and our guide, Oria (like the biscuit but with an ‘a’ as she told us when we first met!), who became our tour ‘Mum’ and provided endless enthusiasm and pride in her country, topped off with an infectious laugh!!

A Tale of Two Cities

An Unforgettable Journey in Middle China

China has always been on my bucket list, but I never imagined I would actually go, especially on my own at the age of 21! A week spent in two cities, connected by a bullet train, yet worlds apart in their essence and experiences.

The Journey Begins

My adventure started with a flight from London Heathrow to China with one of our key partners, Wendy Wu Tours, who took care of all the visa arrangements. Arriving in Changsha, we were greeted by government officials bearing flowers and tea—a warm and memorable welcome.

Discovering Changsha: The Star City

Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province in southern China, is renowned for its spicy cuisine. Known as the "Star City," Changsha is a vibrant metropolis that never sleeps. Our first two nights were spent at the luxurious Meixi Lake Hotel, a 5-star establishment offering stunning city views through floor-to-ceiling windows—even from the bath!

The hotel's cuisine was an adventure in itself; noodles for breakfast was a new experience for me, but it added to the authentic local vibe. Changsha's bustling street stalls, night markets, and neon lights created an atmosphere that felt both special and exhilarating.

A river cruise around Meixi Lake at night allowed us to soak in the illuminated cityscape, accompanied by a live band and local beer. This was followed by a visit to Orange Island, home to the Young Mao Zedong statue—a colossal structure made of over 800 tonnes of granite and standing 32 meters tall.

Cultural Treasures and Culinary Delights

Our exploration continued with a visit to the Hunan Museum, where we saw Xin Zhui, a 2000-year-old mummy that is the best-preserved ancient human body ever discovered. We also visited Yuelu Academy, one of the oldest active universities in the world, nestled at the foot of Yuelu Mountain.

Changsha is famous for its foot massages, so we indulged in one after a day of sightseeing—an absolute treat! Meals were often served on a lazy Susan, offering a variety of dishes including local delicacies like stinky tofu and crayfish. One highlight was dining at Super Wenheyou, a restaurant-market set in the 1980s, providing a nostalgic glimpse into Changsha's past.

The Bullet Train Experience

After two bustling days in Changsha, we boarded the famous bullet train to our next destination. Travelling at speeds up to 200km/h, we watched as the urban landscape transformed into lush greenery and mountainous terrain.

Zhangjiajie: Nature's Wonderland

Arriving in Zhangjiajie felt like stepping into another world. Known for its awe-inspiring landscapes that inspired the film "Avatar," Zhangjiajie's National Park can accommodate up to 50,000 tourists daily.

We rode the world's longest cable car—28 minutes of breathtaking views spanning 7,455 meters with an ascent of 1,279 meters. We also experienced the Bailong Lift, the world's tallest glass elevator, which took us to scenic spots offering unparalleled photo opportunities. Seeing monkeys with their babies in their natural habitat was a heartwarming sight.

An art gallery visit allowed me to purchase a beautiful piece of sand art depicting the mountain landscape—a perfect memento of this magical place.

Evenings Filled with Culture and Entertainment

Evenings in Zhangjiajie were filled with delicious food and captivating shows featuring acrobats, dancers, and singers. One unforgettable morning was spent on Baofeng Lake, where we cruised on traditional wooden boats while listening to traditional Chinese singing against a backdrop of majestic mountains.

Thrills and Adventures

One of the most thrilling parts of the trip was walking on glass-bottomed walkways along mountain cliffs. Heaven's Gate—a natural archway between two peaks accessible via 999 steps—is believed to be a gateway between the mortal world and heaven.

Our final day included crossing a transparent glass bridge over the Grand Canyon—300 meters high! We also enjoyed a virtual hot air balloon ride through the canyon and caves before zip-lining back across—a heart-pounding experience followed by sliding down to the bottom.

A Grand Finale

Our final night was spent watching the Tianmen Fox Fairy Show under Heaven's Gate mountains. This mesmerising performance is based on a traditional Chinese myth about love between a man and a fox.

Sharing my journey with family and friends has left me almost speechless; words can hardly capture the beauty and wonder I experienced in Changsha and Zhangjiajie. Hopefully, my photos and videos will convey some of this incredible adventure—a hidden gem in our world that I feel privileged to have explored.

A new luxury cruise experience

You could say I fall into the ‘fairly new’ to cruise category, after a previous short stay on the lively Virgin Voyages Valiant Lady two years ago, followed by a summer holiday to the Greek Islands with Royal Caribbean last summer. I know I like the variety that cruise offers, with a new destination to explore each day, different restaurants to eat in each evening and enough entertainment throughout the days and nights to even keep a livewire like me entertained! But luxury cruising was a new one on me, and one that I was keen to experience!

So, when I heard about MSC Group launching a new luxury brand, Explora Journeys, I knew I had to experience it for myself.  MSC doesn’t have a luxury capability currently, but I recognised that being owned by a family with the world’s largest shipping company could translate into something extraordinary. Fast forward to the February 2024, where I find myself on a plane to Barbados with my husband, embarking on an unforgettable journey aboard the inaugural ship, EXPLORA I.

DISCOVERING THE ELEGANCE UPON EMBARKATION 

As we boarded EXPLORA I, the ship’s elegant design immediately caught my attention. Every detail exuded luxury, from the sleek interiors to the impressive central bar. Our Ocean view terrace exceeded expectations, offering a divine bathroom, a huge king bed, living space, and a terrace with day bed and table and chairs.

So many little details have been included in each terrace to enhance the experience, from a stocked mini bar and a coffee machine to a separate dressing area with a Dyson hairdryer and leather-lined clothing rails, there are touch es everywhere that add to the luxurious feel.

What truly sets the suite apart is the overall design, which fosters relaxation and indulgence. It truly felt like a home at sea.

On arrival, each suite has the lovely touch of an iced bottle of Champagne, enjoying the room service on our terrace whilst drinking the complimentary Moet whilst we sailed away really was the most special way to start our holiday.

CULINARY DELIGHTS 

The exceptional food is one aspect of EXPLORA I that left a lasting impression on me. From the Emporium Marketplace concept, which transformed the ordinary cruise buffet into an elegant dining experience where I enjoyed unlimited lobster tails and freshly cooked garlic prawns, to the other restaurants such as Fil Rouge, Med Yacht Club, Marble & Co. Grill and Sakura, with their outstanding interiors and diverse menus.

Sakura, in particular, surpassed expectations with its sensational sushi (in my opinion the best at sea), and Marble & Co was also exceptional, with my husband devouring the largest Porterhouse I’ve ever seen!

With the option to dine in restaurants as many times as you like, the hosts allowed us additional visits to our favourite culinary venues without a reservation. I must emphasise the variety and flexibility in the dining options, making Explora Journeys a perfect choice even for picky eaters.

The 24-hour room service mentioned above also sets this ship apart.

The range of foods available, all served quickly and at the right temperature, along with drinks to accompany really added a special experience. There is no additional charge for this service, it was truly incredible.

THE POOLS THAT STAND OUT 

One design feature that captivated me on EXPLORA I was the innovative pool design. Given the two sea days included at the end of our itinerary, we got to fully experience the glorious sunshine on the contemporary, almost hotel-like design of the pools.

Surrounded by large daybeds and strategically positioned to maximise the breathtaking views, these pools create a perfect ambience for relaxation and indulgence.

Service as ever was impeccable, with hosts discreetly noticing when our drinks needed refilling, and always remembering what we were drinking, nothing ever seemed too much trouble.

THE DIFFERENCE 

If you’re wondering where Explora Journeys sits in the luxury cruise market, rest assured it holds its own against other industry favourites. Exceptional service, culinary offerings, and innovative designs make it a fit for existing clients of those luxury brands. However, I believe that Explora Journeys would also be particularly appealing to those who enjoy staying in luxury hotels. Seychelles - Seychelles, on the sea shore!

Steph's visit to Clubmed's Private Paradise!

My trip to the Seychelles was, for me, a mixture of huge firsts! After working in this industry for 24 years this was my very first FAM trip!!

I'd never flown from London Heathrow, let alone travel down there by train on my own!!! I'd never been thrown into a mix of 11 beautiful women I'd never met before who made the experience for me!!

My only long-haul experience was Thailand about 18 years ago so I really didn't know what to expect from the Seychelles. It beat every expectation I had hands down!!

Club Med have their own private boat transfer over to St Anne Island where they have their own private resort.

It is located 3km from Mahe and 30 minutes from Victoria Airport.

The approach to the island was spectacular, the beaches white, the sea a multitude of crystal blues.

We were met by our group organiser, Ashley, who gave us a little welcome talk and escorted us to our rooms. As I sat on my balcony I was totally overwhelmed by how lucky I was to be in such a stunningly beautiful setting, the sea view from my room was amazing!

There are two restaurants, one buffet, with 3 different themed areas and the other located in the Zen area which is table service, à la carte with Creole specialities. All the food was excellent.

After lunch together we had the afternoon to ourselves, cosy on, down to the Zen beach ( adults only) this ended up being our little haunt as it was so beautiful and peaceful. We spent the afternoon in the sea, having a little drinkie or two and getting to know one another!

Each night at a Club Med resort you have a theme night, our theme for that night was Club 45 which is a nod to the number of years they have been in business, Club 45 t'shirts are a must and bright as can be!

During the trip we also had flower power, boho and whites night, this was literally like being in a club!!! Fab dance music, glow sticks, the lot!!!

The All Inclusive was stunning, some of the best food I have ever tasted, such a mix from fish, different meats, signature dishes and plenty on the side. As were the drinks... premium branded alcohol, local beer (which was lovely!) amazing cocktails, even the wines were top notch!

On the Tuesday we were treated to a full day excursion to two of the islands, Praslin & La Dique by catamaran ferry.

Praslin famous for having the worlds largest seed called the Coco De Mer and lush forests and La Dique for having the most amazing Tortoise farm, we were very lucky to be able to get in with them and feed them. For me this was one of the biggest highlights of my trip, they are truly amazing and beautiful.

The beaches on La Dique were also out of this world, looked very much like something out of Jurassic Park with its enormous granite rocks, it is still very colonial and the best way to get around the island is by cycling!

On Wednesday we took a site tour of Club Med Seychelles which took us to the watersports beach where snorkling, paddle boarding, sailing and yoga take place! This beach has its own bar. Hiking and exploring is a must on the island too, they have eco walks where they ensure the island is clean keeping up with its harmonious holistic approach to life.

They have a fantastic kids club which ranges from 4 to 17 years. They also provide the most stunning Wedding location on the island were they also have weekly sunset parties, fresh coconuts filled with rum, fabulous music and dancing to the sunset.

We were given the Thursday to ourselves, so down to the Zen beach we headed for sea swimming, Reef Shark and crab chasing, strawberry daiquiri drinking, beautiful food eating and baking in the beautiful sun.

The weather was very hot but with a lovely breeze that broke it a bit, it rained a couple of times but you could see the amazing storms coming in, we even sat in the sea drinking daiquiris during a rain storm which was fabulous for the soul!

The island has its own resident tortoises who roam freely and even pose for pictures and videos! Also stunningly amazing were the fruit bats flying out and about all day, I became a bit of a geek, bat spotting!! I loved it ��.

Our last night together was hosted by the restaurant at the Zen area, all sat together talking about our experiences over the last few days, we all decided that being together as group made the whole thing for us, each and every woman was so supportive and caring of each other ♥️.

The food again was magnificent, I've never had a fillet steak like it and probably never will do again!!

Leaving the Island on our boat transfer back was filled with lots of emotions, the experiences I had had, the ladies I had met, the people I would probably never see again ��. I'd had truly had one of the best times of my life that gave me a new found confidence in myself, suffering with anxiety it was one of the hardest things I have done on my own, especially the UK travel so I came away very proud of myself and my word of the trip in my own head was "WINNING".

I was extremely lucky to have been sent to the Seychelles and given this opportunity to have such an amazing experience that will stay with me forever. ��.

Exploring Thailand's Enchanting Beauty: My Unforgettable Journey

Thailand, a land of rich cultural heritage, natural wonders, and vibrant cities, holds a special place in my heart. This Southeast Asian gem offers a mesmerizing blend of ancient traditions and modern life, natural beauty, and urban hustle, all set against a backdrop of warm hospitality and delicious cuisine. While many travellers flock to the more well-known resorts in the south, I'd like to take you on a journey through some of Thailand's most captivating destinations in the north: Chiang Mai, Elephant Hills Bush Camp, Bangkok, and Hua Hin. Each place I explored left an indelible mark, ensuring that my adventure in the Land of Smiles was truly unforgettable.

Chiang Mai: The Rose of the North

Nestled in the mountainous region of Northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is often referred to as the "Rose of the North." This enchanting city boasts a serene atmosphere, stunning natural landscapes, and a rich tapestry of history and culture. My journey began at the Cross Chiang Mai Riverside Resort, a serene and elegant accommodation along the picturesque banks of the Ping River. It provided a peaceful escape within the bustling city, with comfortable rooms, stunning river views, and a Michelin Guide restaurant, making it an ideal base for exploring Chiang Mai's historic treasures.

The Old City, encircled by ancient walls and a moat, is a treasure trove of historic temples, markets, and winding lanes. Wat Phra Singh and Wat Chedi Luang are must-visit temples with intricate architecture. A stroll through the Sunday Walking Street Market immersed me in local crafts and mouth-watering street food.

Doi Suthep, perched on a hill overlooking Chiang Mai, offered panoramic views of the city below. The journey to the temple is an adventure in itself, with a scenic drive or a challenging hike. Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, with its dazzling golden stupa and intricate carvings, is a spiritual and architectural masterpiece. Chiang Mai's vibrant festivals, such as Songkran and Yi Peng, allowed me to connect with locals and experience the heart of Thai culture.

Elephant Hills Bush Camp: A Wildlife Adventure

After a short journey from Chiang Mai, I arrived at Elephant Hills Bush Camp, a place where nature and wildlife surround you. This eco-friendly camp nestled within the lush rainforests of Northern Thailand provided a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to interact with elephants and immerse myself in pristine nature. At Elephant Hills, ethical elephant encounters focused on the animals' well-being, offering a chance to observe these majestic creatures up close without subjecting them to cruel practices.

Bangkok: The City of Angels

From the jungles of Elephant Hills, I made my way to the bustling metropolis of Bangkok, known as the "City of Angels." This vibrant capital seamlessly combines tradition and contemporary life. I started my exploration with a visit to the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, where I marvelled at the intricate details and the deeply revered Emerald Buddha.

The floating markets, such as Damnoen Saduak and Amphawa, offered an authentic Thai market experience where vendors sold their wares from wooden boats along narrow waterways. The city came alive at night with a bustling street food scene and vibrant nightlife, from the backpacker-friendly Khao San Road to the upscale experience at Asiatique the Riverfront.

Hua Hin: A Seaside Retreat

After the fast pace of Bangkok, I headed south to Hua Hin, a charming beach town on the Gulf of Thailand. Hua Hin's expansive beach, Hua Hin Night Market, and the Royal Palace of Hua Hin were among the highlights of this tranquil seaside destination. I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Hua Hin, which provided direct beach access and a blend of leisure and luxury.

Other notable hotels I visited in Hua Hin included The Ace Resort, the Centara Grand Hua Hin, and Cape Nidhra Hua Hin, each offering a unique and upscale experience.

Thailand's diverse landscapes and cultures offer an unparalleled travel experience. What makes Thailand truly special is the warm and welcoming nature of its people, who make every encounter memorable. As I returned home, I carried not just unique memories but enduring smiles and happiness. Whether you seek luxury, tranquillity, or adventure, the accommodation options mentioned here will complement your journey, creating a Thai experience that is nothing short of unforgettable. Whether you are looking for the all-singing, all-dancing ‘floating resort experience’, the small/ medium ship focused on fine dining and quality wines, niche experiences such as the Galapagos, Polar expedition cruising, or a cultural experience river cruise on the Mekong and many other options, we would love you to challenge us to find the one for you and your fellow travellers! Some cruise lines are ideal for families, others are Adult Only and there are undoubtedly some cruise lines that cater for more mature clientele, rightly so.

Most cruises stop at a number of ports or river berths and give the opportunity to visit places and experience different cultures with the benefit of only unpacking and repacking once.
